Here's Johnny!

Pencil on paper, scanned and colored in Photoshop.

I finally saw 'The Shining',ages after reading the book(with some very hazy memories I might add).Needless to say I simply loved it... The way they have shot the Overlook was amazing...mesmerizing camerawork and an equally haunting score ! And Jack Nicholson, well you don't need me to tell you how good his performance is... Strangely , although we've all agreed that Heath Ledger's Joker completely outshone Jack's , I found a lot of similarities between the way Nicholson played Jack Torrance and the way Ledger played Joker. Catch it if you havent seen it yet...

It isn't written...

Perhaps the only question that could have thwarted Jamal ;)

Amy in da house

My current favorite female solo artist...Ever since I caught her at the grammies last year, where she won 3, and having read about the other problems plaguing her, all that was needed to hook me was to start listening to her songs... I loved the live performance she gave from UK as she was not allowed to travel to the US...That was a live brassy version of 'I'm No Good',if my memory serves me correctly ... 'Rehab','Me and Mr.Jones' and 'I'm no Good' are my favorite songs from that album and I hope she kicks her habit and gets back into the studio...I'm all for substances helping an artist create something but not when it starts keeping them away from creating...
Of late there has been quite a few Brit ladies storming the music scene and making it in the US too...I love them all... Amy Winehouse, Lily Allen and Duffy are the ones I've heard and been hooked to... yet to give Adele a try...

Good Girl Gone Bad

This Barbadian beauty celebrates her 21st birthday tomorrow. Rihanna was recently in the news during the Grammies when it was alleged that Chris Brown assaulted her over a spat while in the car.Guess she should have sang 'just shut up and drive' or perhaps that's what caused the problem?! Umbrella...ella...ella remains one of the most seductive vocals I've ever heard... As for this caricature I dont think I've nailed it per se but I love what I've done with the hair !

Rave D

A quick sketch of Dev D. Now I don't normally go to see Hindi movies in the cinema halls.I prefer to wait for the DVD or for it to come on TV.But then came Dev D and there I was 2 weekends in a row at Sathyam watching and being totally blown away by Anurag Kashyap's audacious interpretation of Devdas.Heck I think I'm gonna watch it again next weekend. Abhay Deol has effortlessly replaced Manoj Bajpai as my favorite hindi actor and here's to seeing more of this bohemian misfit in bollywood.I mean the guys an artist, and is currently taking up a metallurgy class in New York. How about that?!
Anurag Kashyap had written my all time favorite hindi movie Satya and now I finally get to see the maniacal magic he is capable of as a director.I havent yet seen his previous movies but cant wait for Paanch to finally release as it stars KayKay , yet another new age hindi actor with serious acting chops.I hope Abhay and KayKay come together for one of Ak's movies...now that would be something else...

Dev D also unleashed 2 more phenomenal talents:Amit Trivedi (the music director whom I've decided has created the best hindi film OST I've ever heard) and Mahi Gill(imagine a super sexed up version of Tabu). And though she seemed totally awkward in the 1st half,Kalki Koechlin as Chanda salvaged herself in the 2nd half and I read that she also won the recent Hindu Metroplus Playwright award.Rajeev Ravi's cinematography was stunning.
Dev D's tagline shoulda been 'This season try not falling in love...with this movie'
.
Anurag Kashyap, thank you for giving us the movie of the decade... Bravo, sir !

Sing when you're winning

My favorite contemporary artiste Robbie Williams... he celebrates his birthday tomorrow... I have yet to see someone match his variety from love ballads to rock to swinging Sinatra tributes to rapping ,not to mention his song writing skills...I hope he goes back to studio recording soon...its been awhile since Rudebox came out...

For Pete's Stake

Not that I like Nadal, but I dont mind him beating Federer. I only hope Nadal never wins the US Open, coz Agassi is my tennis god and I wouldn't want anyone to share that unique career golden slam throne with him.
